Now, our goals are more modest — like having a financial safety net — but are still out of reach for many Americans When we’re trying to achieve our dreams, it can be easy to be overwhelmed by all of the steps between where we are today and where we ultimately want to be. MOTHER EARTH NEWS writer Jenna Woginrich suggests a great idea for a fresh perspective and making your goals more attainable. If you look at the next 60 minutes, what can you do in the next hour to get closer to your goals? Kansas, West Virginia, Maine and Nevada recently took initiatives to boost renewable energy, with Kansas and West Virginia introducing thier first renewable energy standards while Maine and Nevada updated their standards with higher goals in mind. This week the G-8 met and talked about climate change but did not accomplish most of their goals because of a lack of cooperation from developing countries. A picture is worth a thousand words, and that’s the case for maps too. Turns out, using some visual mapping helps groups show people their purpose and get the support they need to accomplish their goals. The map above is from Friends of the High Line , and was used – successfully – to show how preserving the structure of the elevated rail line in Manhattan and turning it into a park would benefit local wildlife. |
