This year’s Sundance Film Festival takes a hard look at very current issues. Because of advances in digital technology, there is no longer the three- to five-year lag between film conception and final product The filmmaker Joe Berlinger, who, with a directing partner, Bruce Sinofsky, has chronicled the saga of the West Memphis Three, did so as advocate and journalist. The Academy’s promo for the Oscars telecast pokes fun at the dust-up over ouster of Brett Ratner and Eddie Murphy and pays tribute, sort of, to “Transformers.” Which newcomer will shine on the red carpet this awards season? Three Eames-related exhibitions allow you to see the designers’ home and designs. “West of Memphis,” a new documentary about the West Memphis Three murder case in Arkansas, is directed by Amy Berg (“Deliver Us From Evil”). Its producers include the “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson, as well as Damien Echols, one of the three defendants in the case who was released from prison in August The three-way standoff between the military junta, the Islamists and the liberals is reminiscent of a Hong Kong gangster-movie cliche: Three men, each armed with two guns, points one at each of the other two The Maybach is the biggest and blingiest of luxury cars, but a chronic sales slump has forced Daimler to give the auto the ax While in Las Vegas recently I was tickled by the different types of ‘Shows’ available to cater to each and everyone’s fantasy or fancy. Homeowners would have no means to heat homes or operate machinery. This would turn neighbor against neighbor as they fought for oil and gas. We have to stop pretending that third world countries are like us. They’re not, because they’re not christian!! Why did President Bush inject billions into US Banks before he left office in 2007-08? Because he was wise enough to know that Wall Street was trading high in so many worthless shares that if all shareholders conspired to sell at once, and took cash, that the world’s Banks would not have enough cash to pay out all the shareholders of public companies selling their shares on the world’s stock markets!! There is a system in place in Canada to protect personal savings called “CDIC” – Canada Depost Insurance Corporation”. Why CDIC? Banks and other financial institutions in Canada can fail. It does not happen often, but it has happened and it could happen again. If your financial institution is a CDIC member and it fails and your savings are eligible for CDIC coverage, you will get up to $100,000 of your savings back. If your savings are NOT covered, you might lose them. Can you imagine if there was a run on stock markets around the world and all shareholders sold at the same time!! What would happen. As they went to the Bank to pick up the |
